Biography
Max Wareham is a Boston-based banjo player, songwriter, and author. A longtime member of the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, he has toured nationally with Rowan and appears on his Grammy-nominated album Calling You From My Mountain alongside Billy Strings.
He has performed at leading festivals including Telluride Bluegrass Festival, MerleFest, and RockyGrass, and fronts his own group, The National Bluegrass Team, with appearances at Carrboro Festival, Festival for the Eno, and Crooked River Festival.
Rooted in traditional bluegrass with a lo-fi indie folk sensibility, Wareham's live shows move from intimate storytelling to high-energy ensemble playing, all driven by the banjo. His second album, If The Cosmos Were Whiskey…, will be released June 19, 2026.
